MACOMB (WGEM) – Western Illinois College is creating a corporation that officers mentioned will assist eliminate the adverse stigma surrounding psychological well being.
It’s known as The Grey Issues Collective.
The group has a number of chapters in several faculties throughout the Tri-States together with Moline Excessive College, Augustana Faculty and Geneseo Excessive College.
WIU psychological well being counselor Alantis Tellis mentioned college students reached out to her and different counselors about what may very well be carried out to convey a psychological well being group to campus.
“Our plans entail having visitor audio system are available, internet hosting self-care actions with college students and actually simply serving to college students construct connections with different college students,” Tellis mentioned.
The coed-based group will meet bi-weekly in Horrabin Corridor from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Tellis mentioned a part of her purpose is to reinforce college students training about psychological well being, in addition to advocate for the significance of psychological well being.
“I hope that after college students attend one or two conferences that they really feel snug and assured in noticing the indicators of suicide consciousness, simply when somebody is struggling or they’re struggling,” Tellis added.
